Mira, a leading company in hormonal health, has partnered with professional soccer player Ali Riley to support women as they navigate significant life transitions, including family planning, fertility treatments, and menopause. The collaboration aims to encourage open conversations about hormone health and provide expanded access to personalised, at-home care.
Riley, who plays for Angel City FC and the New Zealand Women’s National Team, is currently rehabbing from a potentially career-ending injury. She’s been candid about her IVF journey, sharing how hormone tracking has given her a sense of control during an uncertain time.
Hormone Tracking Gives Riley Control Over Her Fertility Journey
Riley began using Mira’s hormone monitoring technology during her IVF process. She explained how hormone tracking provided her with a “routine” and “concrete information” in a time of uncertainty.
“Mira gave me the one thing I could rely on — the option of having a baby,” she said.
Tracking her hormone levels during IVF helped Riley feel empowered. “It gave me a roadmap,” she shared. “I wasn’t left wondering what was happening inside my body between doctor’s appointments. It gave me peace of mind.”
Mira’s Technology: A Breakthrough for Fertility Treatments
Mira offers lab-quality hormone tracking from the comfort of home, a significant advancement for those undergoing fertility treatments. It is the first at-home hormone monitor validated for fertility treatments, providing clinical-grade accuracy. Early studies have shown that tracking urine E3G with Mira correlates closely to blood-based estradiol testing, a common marker in IVF cycles. These findings suggest that home hormone monitoring could improve the overall fertility care experience, especially for those navigating time-sensitive phases.
Sylvia Kang, CEO and Co-Founder of Mira, emphasised the importance of knowledge in supporting women’s health. “Ali’s story is a powerful reminder that knowledge is the foundation of confidence,” Kang said. “We’re proud to support her journey and to continue delivering science-backed tools that empower women.”
Raising Awareness of Fertility Health in Professional Sports
Through this partnership, Riley and Mira are raising awareness about the emotional and physical realities of fertility treatment, particularly for women in professional sports, where reproductive health is often overlooked.
“Most sports medicine research is based on men’s bodies,” Riley pointed out. “There’s a huge lack of education around fertility, IVF, and even menstrual cycles. It’s still a taboo topic in many teams.”
For female athletes, fertility preservation and IVF typically occur during the offseason, often without institutional support. Riley emphasised the need for better resources, stating, “There are so many decisions we’re forced to make without the right information or resources.”
Mira’s Commitment to Supporting Female Athletes
In an effort to bridge this gap, Mira is offering to donate hormone-tracking kits to football clubs to help provide athletes with better fertility and hormonal health resources.
Riley and Mira are calling for more transparency, access, and compassion in women’s health, striving to ensure that women everywhere feel seen, supported, and informed—regardless of the stage of life they are in.
